Tooth and Claw (Private)

Fingers drummed restlessly on the windowsil of the car as Jay glared out of the window pensively. Normally he didn't allow himself to get into dark moods, but his grandfather had finally lost it. The old man had sent him away to this boarding school that he knew nothing about. There had been no words said, no explanations given, over breakfast that morning, his grandfather had said that the car would be around at noon to pick him up. If he wanted to take anything with him to his new school, he had to have it packed.

"As if it's not fair that my family was taken from me. Now my life too," he muttered, his tone warning the driver that he wasn't actually addressing him. Joshua had always been a bit odd for his blood line, not that much of it was left now...and his blood line hadn't been exactly normal before hand either. They were seventh generation dhampires, spawned by a single mistake.

The start of the blood line was a noble first bitten, meaning he had been turned by one of the three first vampires. He was young when he had been turned and had fallen for a human woman. One night he took her vein and purity. Soon a child was born. Half human, half vampire, it nearly killed the mother, but when the beautiful baby girl was born, the vampire knew that he had found the perfect way to produce an unique line. Giving his wife several years to heal between each birth, he did not turn her, until she produced a male child to pass on the line.

His son took a woman, who born him a son instantly. Their son had one girl and one son. That son had three girls and a son, his wife not surviving the last child's birth. He had only one child, a male and that child had two boys.

Unlike with other hybrids, the males weren't sterile, but the females were. To keep from being more human than vampire, each of the sons were bitten by a first or second bitten on their eighteenth birthday, before they were allowed to have children. It was a very strict system that selected only the best female humans to breed with. The children became more and more fine boned and light featured, which appealed to the vampires.

Joshua was born with a twin sister and older sister, the first male of his family. Growing up, he had been his father's pride and joy...until that day.

"Sir, we are here. Would you like me to come in with you?" the driver asked as he pulled up at the front of a white building that Joshua thought looked too high class to belong to a highschool, but then again, everything his Grandfather did was full of prestige.

A smirk turned up the corner of Joshua's lips as he turned away from the window to look at the aged driver. In a social tone, he answered, "Nickolas, you are not a nanny and I am not a child. I think it would be a wasted gestured." Leaning forward, he pecked the old man's cheek and add, "Be well my friend. Please tell Grandfather I didn't mean those harsh words. I just don't like change."

The driver smiled and nodded as the small boy climbed out of the car and closed the door. The steps were short and soon he pulled open the large door. There was a long hall way, with rec rooms and conference rooms that had their glass doors closed and at the end of the hall way was a grand entry hall with a desk against the back wall. A short blond woman sat behind it typing. With a smile, Joshua approached her and instantly she pulled out a piece of paper and began searching for something, as she handed him several note books and pieces of paper, telling him his schedule, what room he had, when meals were, where everything was. Pausing she handed him the key to his room and a map, telling him good luck.

There were five buildings on the campus, the office building, where teachers and staff slept and the nurse's office was located, the rec building, which held all of the clubs, as well as several sitting rooms and the cafeteria, the dorms, and the school house itself.

Joshua went straight to his door, the first door off the elevator on the second floor and unlocked it. Already his bags had been brought up and placed on side of the room with nothing added to it. Walking over to his bags, he quickly unpacked, putting his clothes away, uniforms in the top drawers and personal clothes in the bottom ones. He pulled his blankets out of the bag and threw them over the bed, before looking around. There was an adjoined bathroom and a small balcony, but he didn't feel the need to explore, so he stripped out of his black top and blue jeans to pull on clothes that he preferred to wear: a pretty, tutu-like mini skirt, a gray tank top, and a black jacket. Fishing out his head phones, he plopped down on the bed, waving his feet in the air as he hummed to the lyrics. Tomorrow he'd have classes. Tonight, he'd just relax.
